COLUMBIA, S.C., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Space heaters may have caused a mobile home fire in Pelion, S.C., that killed a woman and four children, police say.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the heating devices had been used to heat the mobile home, leading authorities to suspect the heaters were the cause of the weekend blaze, The (Columbia, S.C.) State said Monday.

"The home was being heated solely with space heaters," Metts said. "We think that's probably going to be the cause."

Metts did not report the ages of the child victims and the woman's identity has yet to be released.

The mobile home fire was first reported early Sunday by a neighbor. The entire structure was in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.

The State said an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the blaze while autopsies were to take place Monday to identify the victims.
